Puretone!

The song we have decided to do is Puretone - Addicted to Bass. the song was created by Australian drum and base artists Josh Abrahams, with Australian singer and actress Amiel Daemion on vocals. The song reached the top 20 in the austalian charts in 1998 and reached No.2 in the uk in 2002.

We picked this song from a list of songs that me and kat produced together, but decided this would be the best one to do, below is some of the other songs we considering producing a video for...

  • Wiley - wearing my rolex (still a strong favourite of mine)
  • Christina milian - am to pm
  • Zutons - Zuton Fever
  • Jamelia - See it in a boys eyes
  • Destinys Child - Independant Women
  • Possibly a timbaland song?
  • Goldfrapp
    And a few more!
We both felt we really liked this song and feel like it is osmehitn we will enjoy working with, a really great aspect about it is that the lyris are very visual, and also the original music video is nothing to do with the lyrics therefor our own personal ideas really match the lyrics.

Below i've posted the lyrics of the song and the original music video.

I got two pale hands up against the window pane
I'm shaking with the heat of my need again
It starts in my feet, reverbs up to my brain
There's nothing I can do to revert the gain
I'm looking down to the street below
There's nothing in the way they move to show
They too, know what I knew
They too hunger for the beast below
Listening to the radio I feel so out of place
There's a certain something missing that the treble can't erase
I know you can tell just by looking at my face
A word about my weakness

I'm totally addicted to bass
Wow woah ho
Totally addicted to bass
Wow woah ho

(Wow woah ho)

There's nothing I can do to be cool
I don't sleep 'til I've had my fuel
It frustrates if I am deprived
A hunger that grates from deep inside
I feel like I'm doing time
Imprisoned by dependence on a rhythm sublime
In my mind I must overcome the need to define
The solitary silence of a faceless crime

Standing by the stereo I'm feeling so alone
My back against a speaker and I'm moving on my own
Surrounded by so many and they're staring at my face
They're picking up my problem

I'm totally addicted to bass
Wow woah ho
Totally addicted to bass
Wow woah ho

Your bassline is shooting up my spine
Wow woah ho
Your bassline has got me feeling fine
It's filling up my mind

Sunrise at my window, I look down on the street
People I see everywhere are tapping their feet
Suddenly I realise in a look that I was wrong
Everybody's groovin' to their own song
Down at the scene below
There's something in the way they move to show
They too, know what I know
They too hunger for the beast below

Rhythm's running over me to wash away my fears
The backbeat of humanity it sweetens my tears
There's something that's connected us down throughout the years
No need to feel so lonely, everyone's addicted to bass
Wow woah ho
Everyone's addicted to bass
Wow woah ho

Your bassline is shooting up my spine
Your bassline
Your bassline has got me feeling fine
It's filling up my mind
Your bassline is shooting up my spine
Your bassline
Your bassline has got me feeling fine
It's filling up my mind...

We have decided that we want it to be a concept based video with elements of performance also.
Some of the ideas for shots and narrative that we have brainstormed so far are...
  • Girl running allowing a long lane or high street whilst performing the lyrics
  • same shot of girl walking but with the location rapidly changing - this would be very difficult to do as the shot would have to be exactly the same each time we filmed as well as colour and costume and movement - we are looking inot how we would be able to do this
  • The main character being a girl of around 18-20 with a rebellious attitude, she dresses quite daringly (tasteful, not tacky!) Quite rock n roll/ rave style clothing. she has a big attitude!
  • the main idea is that the girl treats her "addiction to base" as if its a reall addiction that she can't run away or hide from. To show this we had an idea of usuing either a single one a a collection of a few speakers/amps that follow her wherever she goes - almost in a very creepy sort of stalker like way!
  • As well as his idea - usuing the genious programme that is final cut express 0 i have been studying the tutorilas and gudes on how to properly use it and i have learnt how we can layer multiple shot etc, therefoe we came up witht he idea of the main character having other version of her in the shot, almost like her darker personality, shown by darker colours in costume and setting (still havent decided on this) But the idea is that the darker side of the charcter interacts with the normal one and tries to persuade and tempt her to give inot her addiction - she is like the voice in your head that is telling you to give in to your weaknesses- and the girls weakness is the music and bass that she can't keep away from.
  • The lyrics in verse 2 show many referances to being in a prison - we are looking inot creating our own set for this sequende and even getting hold of a straigth jacket - these shots we think will be all a metaphor of what the girls mind feels like , it will be like a dream sequence for when the girl is being chased by the amps.
  • These ideas seem a bit messy atm but they are still developing!
  • We haven't any ideas so far about location, but we definatnly want it to be urban and industrial looking and its going to be quite a dark video as its about addictions, drugs and prison!
  • We are still discussing about casting people to be in the video...shall give an update on this later...
Thats all for now, shall return later today probably to upload some pictures of ideaswe want to include etc..

Bye!

Hello!

Hello! Louise here, finally got round to setting up a blog for this years coursework. This time instead of the fun of thriller, we are creating a music video!

In our first few lessons we did some textual analysis of some famous music video directors ...
Mark Romanek
- Jay-Z - 99 problems
- Johnny Cash - Hurt
- Audioslave - Cochise
Spike Jonze
-The Pharcyde - Drop
- Fatboy Slim - Praise
- Weapon of Choice
Michel Gondry
-The White Stripes - Hardest Button to Button
- Kylie Minogue - Come Into My World
-Foo Fighters - Everlong
-Bjork - Army of Me
- Massive Attack - Protection
Jonathan Glazer
- Jamrioquai - Virtual Insanity
- UNKLE - Rabbit in Your Head Lights

and Chris Cunningham
-Aphex Twins - Come to Daddy
- Windowlicker
-Bjork - All is Full of Love
-Madonna- Frozen

Personally out all of these directors, the two i like the best are Michel Gondry and Chris Cunningham. theyre work is mainly concept based with a small mix of narrative and performance, i feel that concept based music videos attract more audience attention as they are generaly more interesting to watch.

To be continued......
